Solution Brake Noise Testing

Brake Noise Testing DEWESOFT’s brake noise testing solution, compliant with VDA 303 guidelines, is designed to detect and track noise generated by mechanical vibrations across various braking systems. The system allows direct connection of microphones and accelerometers, and automatically reads TEDS configuration to compute all required parameters and statistics for noise analysis. Brake noise detection is based on comparing amplitude spectra between sound and vibration, and only these two data types are needed to identify noise events. Thanks to the flexible DAQ architecture, the system automatically pairs sound–vibration channels, significantly reducing configuration effort for large tests, while allowing additional channels such as temperature, RPM, or brake pressure.

The number of brake systems that can be measured depends only on PC resources, and like other calculation modules in DewesoftX, the Brake Squeal calculation can be rerun in post-processing to adjust the initial setup. Channel configuration is highly flexible: each microphone or accelerometer generates its own FFT, statistics are computed per pair, and a global microphone can be paired with all sensors in a group.

The setup interface is consolidated into a single screen including FFT, sound weighting, noise detection, and channel grouping. During measurement, time-domain and frequency-domain data are acquired from a cabin microphone and accelerometers mounted on the brake assembly. Outputs include amplitude spectra, per-event statistics, and a single unified tracking state. The solution applies to automotive brakes, trucks, construction machinery, trains, aircraft, wind turbines, and conveyors.
